A few days ago we asked our current campers, by email, as well as our alums, on our Facebook and Instagram pages, to fill in this blank: “You might be a Mondamin camper if”…

We received a TON of responses from campers of all ages and decades!

They were great fun to read and the joy in them really lifted our spirits. It is fun to see the one’s that are specific to certain decades but to see that the great majority could have come from any year.

• if your bare feet get used to walking on gravel
• if you don’t have to wear shoes or a shirt to a meal but you do have to take off your hat
• If you celebrate Mardi Gras in July
• If you can go all summer without wearing a shirt
• If you have belly flopped from the rope swing
• if you look forward to hearing Chief / Frank / Andrew tell the Hiawatha & Mondamin story at campfire no matter how many years you have heard it
• if you’ve taken a Dr. Bronner’s bath in the lake
• if you’re bike riding down the street at home and you yell “graveyard” when a car is coming
• If you sing “Build Me Up Buttercup” before a dance
• if you ride the trails of the back 40
• if you have been to Egypt without ever leaving the country
• if you can recite the opening words to “Rocky Raccoon”
• if you eat trail pizza on a regular basis during the year
• if you yell out “JUAN MATEO!” even though you have no idea why
• if you know the story behind “Charlie on the MTA”
• if you have a hobby in the great outdoors
• if you scream “GOOD MORNING!” in Saturday morning assemblies with the hopes of it being heard by Green Cove across the lake
• if you’ve camped out overnight on Rabbit Island
• if you can picture Robert / Trufant / Gary singing “Little Cabin in the Woods”
• If you come back home with a story about a bear at a campsite
• if you have ridden Superman Rock
• if you know way more Johnny Cash / John Prine / Grateful Dead / James Taylor / Allman Brothers, etc… songs than anyone else your age
• If you go on your first overnight camping trip the 2nd day of camp
• if you know what the game Bombardment is
• if you have a jelly shoe / Teva / Chaco / flip flop tan
• if you know “Flea Sta” to make it rain
• if you knew a vicious Bassett Hound named Winston.
• if you know what Odie’s knob is
• if you remember “Waz” and watched him perform with the morning announcements band
• if you ever played “Flour Tag”
• if you know what a “Fireworks of Applause” is
• if you ever had bug juice
• if you know that the Taj Mahal is not just in India
• if you you’ve cooked crickets at the Nature Lab
• if you come home with your clothes stained in paint
